Toddler Group Routine
Morning Ring
Morning greetings are done in a fun and exciting way through song and acknowledgement. This is very grounding for the children and that is why we encourage the parents to get the children settled at school before 08h00. In morning ring we update the chart titled “our day” which includes the year, month, day of the week and weather. We also cover the ground rules and grace and courtesy as per the Montessori curriculum.
Work Cycle
The children are encouraged to work freely through the four different Montessori areas; Practical Life, Sensorial, Maths and Language. Theme projects, news pictures, art and culture are covered near the end of the work cycle. Snack time starts at approximately 09h00 during the work cycle for the Preschool.
Snack Time
Snack time starts starts at approximately 09h00 during the work cycle for the Preschool and as the children get hungry they go eat. At snack time the children sit together and enjoy a healthy meal. Once they are finishes the children are encouraged to tidy their eating area of any food and mess and also to wash and dry their plates. For the toddlers, snack time starts at 09h30 and ends at 10h00.
Afternoon Ring
Depending on the day; we revise our personal details (full names/surnames/parents’ names/addresses), we read stories about emotions and learn how to self-regulate our own emotions, we re-enact prepositions and we engage our senses (identifying smells and tastes / eye game / silence and sound game / touch game). We read a relevant story everyday and learn book awareness by revising how to take care of books, identifying the author and illustrator of the books we read. We always finish on a high note with songs and movement.
Variations
On Mondays we complete Weekend News stories and pictures. On Friday’s we adjust the daily routine slightly to include Baker Baker and our week comes to a happy end as we express our joy in song and dance. We celebrate Birthdays on the relevant days with a Birthday Ring.
