Who We Are

Poppy Seeds Montessori was established in 2016 by Poppy Poretti and Tracey Robinson. In June 2016 we opened with just 6 children and today we are a fully established Montessori Pre-School, including a Toddler Group.  Poppy Seeds Montessori now has almost 40 students, 4 fully qualified Montessori Directresses and 4 Assistants.

Choosing a preschool is a major step and can be an overwhelming decision. The process of selecting a preschool can, however, also be exciting as you research the benefits of different programmes and schools. Every child is unique with individual traits that require nurturing and development at a pace comfortable to the individual. It is upon this premise that Poppy Seeds Montessori is based. 

 The Montessori Curriculum places the student at the centre of learning, exploration and discovery. The structure of our classroom encourages students to work together, share and learn from one another.  This teaches children self-discipline, respect and a sense of community. Our work cycle and prepared environment also refines concentration, self-control and motivation. By highlighting the student’s individuality, our teachers facilitate the learning process by encouraging students to work at their own pace nevertheless ensuring that the ground rules are followed.

 

Abstract ideas, including math and language, are taught practically through specially designed equipment.  Research has revealed that millions of children around the world have benefited with a solid, independent learning foundation through Dr Maria Montessori’s philosophy and method since she opened her first school in 1907.

In line with Montessori Philosophy, we at Poppy Seeds Preschool envision setting the foundation to allow children to develop into loving, kind and creative individuals who are independent on all levels.

Individuals that:

• feel they are important, have value and acknowledge their self-worth.

• have a deep sense of security regardless of their circumstances and environment.

• have a highly developed sense of decision making and recognise that they have the ability to make positive choices for their future.

  •  At Poppy Seeds Montessori Preschool we live Montessori Philosophy through the individualised, structured and prepared environment.

  • Children are presented with learning opportunities to practice life skills and verify their knowledge, abilities, attitudes, values and feelings within a peaceful, respectful and safe environment.

  • Our school community of mixed age groups and diversity encourages our children to work cooperatively in the service of one another, the school and the society.

About Us

Poppy Seeds Educators

  • We support our educators to offer a prepared environment and work cycle that provides structure within which our children can exercise their individuality.

  • Our Educators are skilled to offer Montessori methodology. They are supported to work in a cooperative manner, unified by the Montessori philosophy.

  • As keepers of the prepared environments, our educators are proficient in furthering our children’s creativity and imagination, problem solving skills and ability to engage in independent research.

  • Our Educators are guided by our children’s individual needs and capabilities to offer them developmentally appropriate activities. 

  • As role models, our Educators strive towards their own continual self-development through observation, reflection and growth towards excellence. 

Poppy Seeds Parents

  • Our parents are an integral part of the Poppy Seeds Montessori family, actively engaged in their children’s growth and learning as stewards of the Montessori philosophy. 

  • Our parent’s value who their child is becoming, as well as what their child accomplishes by continuously enabling their child’s independence.

  • Our parents embody Montessori philosophy by modelling respect for self, others and the environment by embracing cultural diversity; by communicating openly and regularly with their child, their child’s teacher and the school community; by demonstrating confidence in each teacher’s child-centred focus and commitment.

  • Our parents support the school’s driving force – quality education within the Montessori philosophy – by observing in classrooms, through participating in parent education programmes; by contributing to  the enrichment  of the learning community by sharing their expertise and life passions and by demonstrating a commitment to the school’s educational programme.

  • Our parents act as ambassadors for Poppy Seeds Montessori to the greater community.
